The new IB Diploma Sports, Exercise, and Health Science (SEHS) curriculum, launching in February 2024, is set to enhance scientific understanding in line with contemporary societal changes. It will foster skills and the interconnectedness of concepts, offering a deeper learning experience. The syllabus is now structured around three main themes: exercise physiology, biomechanics, and sports psychology, with a strong emphasis on practical and experimental work.
The revised course highlights the importance of conceptual learning and skill development, integrating Nature of Science (NOS) principles throughout. A new collaborative sciences project will encourage interdisciplinary and real-world problem-solving. Assessments have been updated to include two external exams and a revised internal assessment focusing on high-order thinking skills. This reimagined curriculum aims to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and the ability to apply scientific principles creatively across various contexts.
