Major curriculum update coming
The new IB History syllabus launches in February 2026, with first teaching in August 2026 and first assessment in May 2028. The updated course introduces greater flexibility and conceptual depth, built around four key ideas: cause and consequence, continuity and change, perspectives, and significance. Content is restructured around:
- Paired case studies (replacing prescribed subjects)
- Global themes (replacing world history topics)
- Regional in-depth topics for HL students
Assessment is also streamlined under the new syllabus:
- Paper 1 – source-based questions on paired case studies
- Paper 2 – conceptual and thematic questions
- Paper 3 (HL) – two essays drawn from regional topics
- Internal Assessment – simplified to three sections, with the reflection component removed
The new course places greater emphasis on inquiry, diverse historical perspectives, and teacher choice, aligning with modern historical thinking and local/regional contexts. This collection includes titles for the current syllabus, with new resources for the 2026 curriculum being added as they become available.
