IB Mathematics Analysis & Approaches HL Textbook

IB Mathematics Analysis & Approaches HL Textbook
For the IB Diploma Programme – First Assessment: May 2021
This textbook has been developed specifically for students taking the IB Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches Higher Level (HL) course. It is designed to be used in conjunction with the Mathematics: Core Topics HL textbook, with students typically beginning this book approximately 6–7 months into the two-year course, once they have completed the Core Topics HL material.
This is the second of two books required to complete the HL Analysis and Approaches course. Students pursuing either SL or HL Mathematics will follow a similar two-book structure:
-
Core Topics + Analysis and Approaches
-
Core Topics + Applications and Interpretation
Why this structure?
-
It allows the full curriculum to be covered thoroughly, while keeping each book manageable in size
-
It enables all HL students to start together, offering flexibility in course selection as the program progresses
-
The Core Topics HL book features a range of question difficulties, including more rigorous content to prepare students for advanced topics
Written with the analytical demands of the course in mind, the book presents concepts clearly and concisely, with an emphasis on algebraic rigor and real-world applications. It includes:
-
Worked examples with step-by-step guidance
-
Discussion prompts and investigations to build reasoning and problem-solving skills
-
Integrated Theory of Knowledge (TOK) connections
