Updated for the New IB Math AI Syllabus
The IB has revised the Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation course for students starting the Diploma Programme from August 2027. This second edition is updated for the new course guide, so students learn exactly what will be examined from 2029.
Key changes in the new HL course:
- Content removed at HL: complex numbers, the vector product, the Poisson distribution, and several hypothesis tests
- No new content added, giving a more focused, coherent course
- Shorter exams: HL Papers 1 and 2 are now 100 marks each, and Paper 3 is 50 marks over 1 hour
- Revised internal assessment: the mathematical exploration now uses new criteria shared by SL and HL, which are problem specification, abstraction, computation and interpretation
