DP Sports, Exercise, and Health Science
The IB Diploma Programme (DP) Sports, Exercise, and Health Science (SEHS) curriculum has undergone significant updates to align with contemporary scientific understanding and societal needs. The revised course is structured around three central themes:
-
Exercise Physiology and Nutrition: Exploring the body's responses to physical activity and the role of nutrition in health and performance.
-
Biomechanics: Analyzing human movement through mechanical principles to enhance performance and reduce injury risk.
-
Sports Psychology and Motor Learning: Examining psychological factors influencing athletic performance and the processes involved in acquiring and refining motor skills.
This thematic approach emphasizes the interconnectedness of concepts, fostering a holistic understanding of how physiological, mechanical, and psychological factors impact sports and exercise. The curriculum also places a stronger emphasis on conceptual learning, encouraging students to apply scientific principles to real-world scenarios. These changes aim to develop critical thinking and analytical skills, better preparing students for further education and careers in sports science and related fields.
