The DP Global Politics curriculum is undergoing significant changes to enhance its relevance and impact. The updated curriculum emphasizes a deeper exploration of power dynamics within political systems, advocating an interdisciplinary approach that encourages students to actively engage with contemporary political issues. Key revisions include streamlining the course around four central concepts—Power, Sovereignty, Legitimacy, and Interdependence—to provide a focused and comprehensive framework for understanding global politics.
The curriculum structure has been adjusted to introduce a core unit complemented by thematic studies, such as Rights and Justice, and Development and Sustainability, allowing for a more flexible and in-depth exploration of critical issues. For Higher Level (HL) students, new areas like Technology and Equality have been added, broadening the scope of Global Political Challenges.
Assessments have also been updated, notably replacing the HL Oral Presentation with an enhanced Engagement Project, emphasizing deeper analytical engagement with power and its manifestations. These changes aim to equip students with a nuanced understanding of global political dynamics, fostering informed and active global citizenship.
